Voice Command Reference
The Quartermaster Scanner Station supports advanced voice commands, allowing hands-free kitchen inventory management. It uses an on-board microphone to record audio and processes it using high-accuracy Whisper speech-to-text models.
Operating the Microphone
To trigger a voice command:
- Tap the Voice / Talk Button on the Scanner Station (or tap the microphone icon in the mobile app).
- The station will beep, and the LED will change to white, indicating it is listening.
- Speak your command clearly, then wait.
- The station will announce the result of your action over the speaker.
Core Inventory Commands
You can speak naturally to add or remove provisions. Below are standard command structures:
Adding Items
- "Add three bags of frozen peas."
- "Put two boxes of waffles in the downstairs freezer."
- "Log five pounds of ground beef."
Removing Items
- "Remove one bag of frozen strawberries."
- "Take out two boxes of waffles."
- "Clear out the ice cream."
Local Station Commands
Certain commands are parsed locally on the Station's processor (without needing a database transaction) for immediate physical hardware feedback:
Volume Controls
You can adjust the station's speaker volume using your voice. The station recognizes the words "volume" or "vol" followed by a number from 1 to 10:
- "Volume 5" (Sets the speaker to 50% volume)
- "Vol 8" (Sets the speaker to 80% volume)
- "Volume 1" (Sets the speaker to 10% volume)
Upon recognizing a volume command, the station will adjust the system mixer level immediately and beep at the new volume level to confirm.
